O2 Annual Partner of the Year Awards – The One Point
In December, we announced the winners of our annual Partner of the Year Awards – all organisations who provide consistently outstanding, world-class customer support and service as well as a high level of digital knowledge and expertise. At O2, we choose to work with talented partners so that we can realise our mission to become the most trusted provider of brilliant digital experiences to businesses end users.
The One Point is a managed service provider, offering a Single Point Of Contact (SPOC) for IT, telecoms, mobile and digital services. They have been an outstanding O2 partner this past year, and thoroughly deserve this prestigious award.
The company was established by entrepreneur Martin Lauer, who saw the potential of selling mobiles, telephones, systems and networks 15 years ago, at a time when he was also establishing a not-for-profit contemporary art gallery in Hull, supporting upcoming artists through exhibitions and events.
We caught up with Martin this week to talk about what the award means for The One Point.
How does it feel to be crowned one of our Partners of the Year?
How does it feel? It means a great deal to us. We realised early on that if we were going to matter to the larger organisations that we wanted to reach, we needed to establish partnerships like the one we have with O2.
When we were looking for a business to business partner in this space we chose O2 because they seemed to match our own values, particularly their flexible and customer-focused approach. So to be crowned as one of their partners of the year is recognition that we made the right choice and have proved that we can deliver volume and get stuff done.
What does it mean to be part of the O2 Partner Network?
We have a close level of contact, and are regularly consulted about O2’s business to business plans and approach. They also request feedback on product ideas and pricing, so it feels as though our views matter and play an important part in product development, for example.
As part of the O2 Partner Network, we get a lot of marketing support, as well as regular training on O2 products and services. I just can’t imagine that support like this exists outside of the Partner Network. It’s certainly a partnership where the more you put into it, the more you get out, and it has played its part in helping us to grow rapidly in recent years.
What gets you energised in the morning for the day ahead?
Well it’s my German Shepherd that physically gets me awake and out of bed at 6am each morning. He has to be walked and so I’m out of the house first thing come rain or shine.
More than that, though, the hour or so that I’m out with the dog provides an invaluable opportunity for planning and reflection. I’m inherently competitive, and love winning. Although I take losses personally, I try and learn from them, and my early morning walks give me the perfect opportunity to reflect and work out what I would do differently, or better, next time. I’m usually taking notes on my phone as I’m walking the dog, solving problems in my head or focusing on the challenges of the day ahead. It’s the most energising hour anyone could have, and if you look at many of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs and leaders, they tend to get up and start their day a few hours before everybody else.
What are you most excited about that the future will bring?
I often look at the future of the business in terms of that elusive hockey stick sales curve, where revenue growth increases sharply in a curve shaped like a hockey stick. And I think that there is a lot to be excited about.
There are three core elements to our business, managing technology, telecoms and mobile – and there are a number of developments in the sector that represent opportunities to grow the business at speed. More and more businesses, of all sizes and in all sectors, are outsourcing their managed services, which is exciting for us. Then there’s the ISDN switch off in 2025, which is something that we are in a strong position to support businesses with.
5G may be already upon us, and we are all talking about the business opportunities that it presents. But I’m already wondering about 6G, 7G and every other technology that follows. As I said, there’s a lot to be excited about!
