Hack of the week: be super efficient with RescueTime
With so many distractions out there – calls, texts, emails, social media, apps, RSS feeds – it’s no surprise that we find it hard to focus on one thing at a time. This is particularly true of small business owners, who inevitably have to juggle different aspects of their business at the same time, from accounting and recruitment to marketing. While we’d probably all admit that we could be more efficient, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how we’d spend our time differently. And that’s where RescueTime comes in.
RescueTime is a tool that helps you to understand how you’re spending your time online. It runs in the background during the day and tracks the time you spend in meetings, on certain websites, applications or pieces of software to provide you with an accurate summary of what you’re doing and how long you’re doing it for. It also allows you to set goals for your day and alarms to sound when you’ve spent too long on a certain website that day – Facebook, for example.
The ‘lite’ version of the tool, which tracks your time on websites and apps, allows you to set certain goals and sends you a weekly email report of your time, is totally free. No excuses now – it’s time to get super efficient.
