Digital Communities: Week 6 Overview
by O2 Business
Our Digital Communities project continues and this week we’re looking back at activity from week six. On Saturday 14th we were excited to be a part of the St Helens Christmas Lights Switch On, and the fun continued into the working week.
To kick us off, on Tuesday 17th our very own Social Media Specialist, Bradley Tooth, delivered two seminars on The Power of Social Media – back by popular demand. Bradley started by discussing how digital tools and social media have changed the way we communicate and interact. Phones used to be just for calling and texting, but since data entered the scene people are glued to their smartphones. You can share something globally in a matter of seconds which can go viral in a matter of minutes. Normal people can become famous from their bedroom by blogging on YouTube and brands can make or break their image with a single tweet.
At O2, we have 10,000 new conversations on social media platforms every week. And we answer 90% of them in just 15 minutes. Our England Rugby campaign saw 5.5 million people pledge support using #WearTheRose. The power of social media can’t be ignored. At the end of the session, Bradley answered questions from attendees about how they can use Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to help grow their business and engage with their customers.
Later in the week we hosted our website and app design masterclasses. The number of apps on the market has grown dramatically – as of July 2015 there were 1.6 million apps available on the Android app store. But more and more being developed each day and so our workshop helped people get started by bringing their app ideas to life.
And let’s not forget the importance of websites! Almost every business needs a website as the main contact and information point for new and existing customers. We are keen to support small and local business as part of the Digital Communities project so it was great to see so many people getting involved in the class.
Next week, we’ll be giving people a second chance to attend some of our most popular sessions including how to keep children safe online and our introductory technology class. To find out more, or to get involved, visit the website or search for #HelloStHelens on Twitter. We’re only here for a few more weeks so come and see us while you can.
