COMIT Community Day 2019: The roundup

Whenever you get lots of people who are passionate about construction (particularly the role of technology in construction) in one room, you’re bound to hear some spirited debate.
On 19th September, we did just that: along with the rest of the O2 team, I hosted members of the COMIT community – a group of clients, contractors and suppliers aiming to transform productivity across the construction industry – at The O2 for our COMIT Community Day.
There were, indeed, some interesting discussions about the future of the industry. But a significant number of our attendees seemed passionate about one particular theme – a common thread that ran through almost all of the talks and workshops that took place throughout the day. And that theme was partnership, as you’ll see from some of the sessions…
- James Ellis from VisiLean gave us a behind-the-scenes look at his team’s partnership with Mace, using VisiLean’s project management software to boost collaboration and drive efficiency on-site.
- Andy Holt from Azurelope showed us how partnerships between technology and industry are helping constructors get around an age-old problem: getting timely and accurate information to those who need it most.
- Jeremy Sherwin, O2’s Experience Design Lead and Digital Creative Director, and Mat Daly, Construction Sector Specialist, led a Jobs to Be Done (JTBD) workshop for Community Day attendees to tackle the biggest challenges constructors face today. One key theme was that constructors need better ways to access asset, project and cost information.
Those highlights only skim the surface of the huge variety of stories, viewpoints and insights that the COMIT Community Day brought to the fore.
Almost everyone seemed to agree that to weather this period of upheaval and uncertainty in the industry, constructors and technology providers need to focus on forging deeper, more integrated, more strategic partnerships.
That was inspiring to hear, because my team and I have always felt that strong partnerships are the driving force behind our success in the construction sector. We’ve invested a lot of time and thought into ensuring that we’re not just providing technology – we’re doing everything it takes to ensure that our customers get the most from that technology long after it’s implemented.
