O2 launches Managed Endpoint Detection and Response product for business customers

Jay McDonald, Cyber Security Product Manager at O2, talks about our new security managed service capability.

My job involves helping our business customers and partners to understand and mitigate the risks that come from cyber crime and security weaknesses. One thing I’ve learned is that whatever its size, no business can afford the cost or disruption that comes with a successful cyber attack – which is why I am so excited at the launch of O2’s new Managed Endpoint Detection And Response (EDR) solution which is available to all business customers.

It takes an active approach to endpoint security that monitors and protects in real time to prevent and block attacks and hunt threats that have infiltrated a company’s defences. It offers greater visibility into what’s happening across your entire device estate, providing both context and detailed information about attacks.

Addressing the skills shortage

If you’re responsible for IT recruitment, particularly in the sphere of cyber security, you will be aware of the current skills shortage. Last year McAfee published Hacking the skills shortage, a research paper based on interviews with 775 IT and cyber security decision-makers. It revealed that 82% of respondents reported a shortage of cyber security skills.

With this in mind, O2 offers Managed Services of our Cloud EDR solution, which eases the burden of recruiting and retaining a skilled resource to manage and maintain the solution. It enables you to reallocate budget to develop the business, confident in the knowledge that your security is in safe hands. Reporting tools help you to see what is happening at every endpoint, and you can either make minor changes in-house, or request changes from our Security Operations Centre (SOC).

Why O2?

O2 is ideally placed to support businesses with their cyber security. Our SOC team are already entrusted with securing critical national infrastructure, and it’s this same resource that manages our EDR solution.

As part of Telefónica, we have a dedicated security unit, ElevenPaths, and access to over 1,000 security experts worldwide. And with Wayra UK, we have a team dedicated to working with start-ups to help grow and develop innovative technology solutions.

Security and reputational risk

As you will already know, tighter regulations and compliance mean that basic or ‘good enough’ security just doesn’t cut it any more. You need to be able to identify exactly when a breach occurs, the devices and users affected, as well as the data that has been compromised. Our Managed EDR solution delivers next generation protection whilst providing full visibility of what is happening at every endpoint of your estate.
