Accelerate 2019: 14 February 2019 – Will you be there?

Ant Morse, Head of Digital Solutions – SMB at O2, talks about February’s 2019 Scale Up Event: #Accelerate2019, and why every business looking to scale up should attend.

If you subscribe to O2’s business blog then you will know that throughout 2018 we hosted a series of #ScaleUp events in London in partnership with Enterprise Nation. We heard from five of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs, including the founders of Skimlinks, Shazam, Lovecrafts, AO and Eat Natural. Each shared their start up story and offered their tips and practical advice for scale up success.

I feel privileged to have attended all five events, and it seems a fitting start to this year’s #ScaleUp activity for O2 and Enterprise Nation to host Accelerate 2019, on Thursday 14 February at Twickenham Stadium. In a packed one-day programme, open to all, you will learn techniques to overcome five key barriers that all businesses must conquer if they are to achieve their growth ambitions:

  1. Finding employees to hire who have the skills your business needs
  2. Building your leadership capability
  3. Accessing customers in other markets/home market
  4. Accessing the right combination of finance
  5. Navigating infrastructure

Throughout the day you will hear from entrepreneurs and expert speakers who can help you take your business to the next level.

Here are just a few highlights:

1. Hear from the inspirational England Rugby Women’s team

The Red Roses are ranked second in the world and claimed the Triple Crown last season. They have had an extremely strong start to the Women’s Six Nations 2019, winning their first game against Ireland on Saturday 2 Feb. They face France just a few days before this event. Accelerate 2019 offers a great opportunity to meet some of these athletes and learn how to develop a growth mindset, build resilience, and increase performance in all aspects of life.

2. The Entrepreneur’s Mind-set: How to set goals and measure success in 2019

Award-winning entrepreneur and life-coach, Simon Alexander Ong, will talk about how you can set smart goals for your business and succeed in meeting those goals through developing a growth mind-set, and building resilience.

3. Building a business through acquisition

David Baldwin, CEO of Baldwins, a private equity backed accounting firm that has made more than twenty acquisitions in the past two years, will talk about scaling through acquisition as well as what makes an ideal business to acquire.

4. Recruitment and retention

Lyndsey Simpson is one of three CEOs at The Curve Group, the recruitment and HR specialists offering solutions for large high street banks as well as small and growing businesses. Lyndsey will talk about how to find the best people and motivate your team to achieve your #ScaleUp ambitions.

5. Support for growth

You will meet and hear from a panel of experts who can help you with everything from raising funds to protecting IP, exporting, and providing #ScaleUp space.

6. Scaling a business via franchising

Find out if your business is franchise-able, and how to go about it, from the founders of two highly successful franchise businesses.

7. Leveraging tech: The 4th industrial revolution?

I’ll be on an expert panel myself, talking about how businesses can leverage technology for #ScaleUp success. For me, technology is the great enabler. When you think about what technology has made possible in business it’s no exaggeration to regard it as the fourth industrial revolution.

Within a generation we have seen increasingly compact mobile devices pack more and more technology inside them, to the point where we carry in our pockets everything we need to work remotely, communicate effectively and collaborate with clients and colleagues.

Every day we witness examples of consumers adopting new technology willingly, just because of the convenience or service it offers. It’s why AirBnB is now the world’s largest accommodation provider, without owning so much as a mattress. Or how Just Eat became as big as one of the UKs leading supermarkets or retailers without owning a single store or restaurant.

We are also seeing how technology is allowing us to work remotely, reducing the high costs of travel, and allowing us to recruit talent regardless of location.

So if you are looking for ways to grow your business, leveraging technology should play a big role in strategy. Come and introduce yourself after the panel discussion, or you can contact me via LinkedIn.
