National Hug Day – show your business some love

It’s National Hug Day and your business may need a good hug too. Emma Jones, founder of small business support group Enterprise Nation, says there’s never been a better time to get support from experts and peers – you’ll feel happier and the business will grow faster as a result.

Research from government business support programme, Growth Vouchers, showed that businesses that do take advice grow faster than those that don’t. The philosophy of ‘focus on what you do best and outsource the rest’ is one that’s taken to heart by almost all the successful entrepreneurs I know.

You’ll have started a business because you particularly enjoy one element of the work, whether that be making, innovating or selling, and this will be the element at which you most excel. At the outset you need to understand and feel comfortable with all aspects of the business (whether you enjoy them or not) including how to excel at social media, make sales, stay on top of the accounts, perfect the product, reach new customers etc. But as the business develops, your time as the founder is best spent on your greatest strength, complemented by support from experts, advisers and contractors in the areas that aren’t your forte.

This is why Enterprise Nation exists; to connect small businesses with the right advice and support at the right time. This support can come in the form of weekly masterclasses, consultation calls with advisers or a full programme of lively events where you can meet potential partners and supporters face-to-face. Support is easily accessible online but sometimes a conversation with a fellow entrepreneur is all you need to remind you that you’re not alone in your entrepreneurial endeavours.

Support can be magic

Enterprise Nation member and close-up magician David Harris, is now at the stage of wanting to scale that talent and business through using technology.

“I make the most of all the support available to me. I attend the Enterprise Nation meet-ups to hear from other founders on how they’re growing their business and I just attended StartUp 2017 to ask brand experts about how I can raise my profile, and to find out if I could spread word of my magic via Facebook or Instagram. I’m a sole founder and accept that I know my magic but I don’t know everything about business. I’m constantly learning and Enterprise Nation is my hotline to experts as well as making me aware of all the tools that will help my business grow.”

Give your business a bit of love on National Hug Day through reaching out and getting support. You’ll benefit from it all year round.

Enterprise Nation launched in 2005 and has since helped thousands of people start and grow their businesses. Led by founder Emma Jones MBE, it’s also a leading campaigning voice for small business with the Government. See more Enterprise Nation stories
