5 tips to beef up your social media strategy for Xmas
With Christmas just around the corner, your social media conversations are more important than ever. Here are some tips to help you make the most of them this festive season.
1. Christmas up your cover photos and profile pictures
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, they all use cover photos and profile pictures. If you want to be seen as a Christmas-relevant brand, give your pictures some festive flair. This could be as simple as using a Christmas photo frame app on either iOS or Android.
2. Run competition giveaways
‘Tis the season for giving and receiving, so why not run a giveaway or competition? You’ll tap into festive gift-giving culture, generate plenty of interaction and new users while gaining valuable information on existing and potential customers. If you need a platform to run the competition or giveaway on, online tools like gleam.io can manage it for you and offer insights too.
3. Create Christmas Facebook Offers
Facebook is not only the biggest, but also arguably the most versatile social media platform and can even run standalone offers. This will make anyone who follows you feel like they’re part of a ‘VIP club’. On your Facebook page, click Offer, then Event + at the top of your page’s timeline. Select Offer. Select whether people can use the offer Online or In Store. Select an Offer Type from the dropdown, then add details about your offer.
4. Preset your tweets and posts for the big day
Nobody wants to be working on Christmas or Boxing Day, but when everyone’s digesting their holiday feast, there’s a significant spike in smartphone scrolling and tablet tapping. To capitalise on it without sacrificing your down time, use a service like Hootsuite to preset tweets, updates and posts.
5. Prepare for the New Year buzz
It’s an unwritten rule – don’t push conversations about New Year too hard until Christmas has been and gone. Presetting tweets for Boxing Day is one way to get the New Year message out at the ideal time. What kind of content is right for new year? Promotions, giveaways, blog posts and videos with an emphasis on resolutions and wellbeing are ideal. This new year, topics like mindfulness, meditation and ethical working all look set to top the workplace resolution lists.
