What next for BlackBerry?

By Robert Gibson-Bolton, Enterprise Mobility Specialist

I felt it was sad news in September when BlackBerry announced the end of its 17 year tenure as a phone manufacturer. Since their humble beginnings with the model 850, they have hugely shaped and redefined the business standard for mobile technology.

It’s more than likely we will still see the BlackBerry badge on 3rd party devices, but the explosion of smartphones over the last 10 years and the emergence of mobile applications have given people more choice, and as we know, giving choice to your users in the way that they work is key to success.

Although I do wonder what happens for those organisations still using their trusted BlackBerrys and what potential challenges they might face?

Well, as shown in Bloomberg’s decision to stop supporting its app on BlackBerry devices, there is a risk that businesses and industries that rely on these key vertical apps to succeed could face further challenges as support starts to drop off. And, for organisations heavily entrenched in the BlackBerry ecosystem, making the move to smartphones could prove far more challenging than meets the eye.

So what can be done to help ease this transition? There are many service providers that can help organisations transition to fully mobile environments and here at O2 we have over 30 years of experience in helping our customers make that difficult journey with ease and excellent service through the whole process. Using our industry expertise and our tailor-made approach to customer challenges we can design a bespoke end-to-end solution that can deliver the secure mobile environment demanded.

We have made great strides in enabling our customers to manage the tricky and some heavily regulated environments in which they operate. Solutions such as our market leading Mobile Recording proposition, which offers greater control over mobile channels.  To ensure devices are safe and secure before they even leave the warehouse floor we offer in-house managed logistics services, combined with new propositions like Apple DEP which can guarantee a fully customised and secure delivery experience with ease.

I’m happy to share more examples about how we’ve helped customers across the public and private sectors deliver successful mobile transformation so please just contact me.  Or you can read more here.
