Why fingerprint technology is good for business
What’s the code to get into your phone?
Come on, own up. Who has 1-2-3-4? How about 2-5-8-0? Surely no one has gone for the 1-1-1-1 or 7-7-7-7?
If anyone is shifting awkwardly after that opening, don’t worry, fingerprint technology is here to make your phone more secure than ever. Watch the video to see which phones are using this technology and why it’s great for business.
Fingerprint scanners aren’t just for Apple devices anymore. With biometric sensors in the latest Android flagship phones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P and baked into Marshmallow, the newest version of Android, phones are becoming more secure than ever.
Good news for business.
Besides the convenience of unlocking your phone with a simple press, protecting emails, texts, documents and photos, the new standard means that apps will allow your digits to log you in to online services, approve transactions, digitally sign documents, and make payments.
What if your fingerprint fails you?
We all know tech doesn’t always work 100% of the time. And similarly, fingerprint tech isn’t infallible just yet.
Just like with iOS though, should your fingerprint not register, you can use a PIN or password.
Is a fingerprint the final word in mobile security?
No. Definitely not.
If you lose your smartphone for example, a fingerprint lock won’t disable it remotely. As an iPhone user you can lock your phone remotely using iCloud. If you have an Android phone, you can use third party measures like McAfee’s Multi Access, available from O2 Business. Similarly, fingerprint security won’t help protect against viruses or malware.
It won’t solve all security issues, but fingerprint scanners are here to stay. They’ll make phones safer. And payment by phone will become easier and much more common.
