Some 2016 tech treats
Well, it looks like 2015 is finally drawing to a close. It’s been great hasn’t it? Tech-wise we saw the launch of the Apple Watch, the Surface Pro 4 and it seems everything now has to be 4K. Oh and Back to The Future day came and went.
But what of 2016? We’ve had a look at some of the exciting tech trends in store next year for you and your business:
Android Pay and Samsung Pay look set to arrive on our shores in the first half of the year. Android Pay will incorporate loyalty schemes, allowing customers to pay with points or cash. Samsung Pay by contrast will support both NFC and traditional magnetic stripe payments, supporting virtually every credit card reader around.
Office in your pocket
If you saw our Microsoft Lumia 950 overview, you’ll know all about the Continuum dock. Set to launch in the new year, it turns the new Microsoft flagship smartphones into the brains behind a full desktop Office 365 experience.
Smartwatches, here to stay
2016 will see wrist-based apps integrate with Android Pay and Samsung Pay as well as the already available Apple Pay. The coming 12 months will also see improved business watch apps, better battery life as well as new versions of both Apple’s Watch OS and Android Wear, not to mention plenty of new hardware too.
Also expected to become more mainstream in the next twelve months is biometric security. This covers body-linked security measures, from fingerprint and iris scanners through to facial recognition.
While these have all been around for some time, fingerprint scanners specifically are appearing on more and more smartphones running Android.
Finally, virtual reality. Once a plaything of enthusiastic gamers and high-rolling corporations, in 2016 VR will be a choice tool for the creative marketer, whatever your business size.
With most Android and iOS smartphones supporting Google’s Cardboard VR standard, you can send out a branded Google Cardboard kit for a few pounds a pop and take advantage of the tech already in your customers’ pockets.
So that’s our best guess. If you have any insider tips as to what 2016 holds in store tweet us @O2businessUK.
