Hack of the week: automatically declutter your inbox with Office 365

We’ve all been there: you wake up in the morning, check your phone and are greeted by a huge stack of unread emails – not all of which are top of your priority list. Well, Microsoft Office 365 has a clever solution that learns how to sort your emails based on your previous preferences – so you can read the emails that really matter and get on with your day (or have five more minutes in bed…)

The feature is called ‘Clutter’ and, based on the emails you always read and those you tend to delete, it begins to understand which should be prioritised at the top of your inbox, and which would be better off in your ‘Clutter’ folder. This isn’t email screening as you know it – there’ll be no prescribing which sender, subject or mailing list you’d prefer not to see. Rather, your past actions gradually and continually influence the messages that appear first. And if a message you want to read gets filed in your ‘Clutter’ folder, simply move it back to your inbox – this action will be remembered and messages of that type will never be relegated again.
