World of good: O2’s International Volunteering Week
Telefonica and O2’s ‘International Volunteering Week’ launched on 6th October. It’s our way of engaging with issues that matter to us and helping out employees get out there, to give back. When it comes to introducing volunteering initiatives into your business, there are three key things to consider:
- Can you concentrate your efforts? We understand time and resources are always limited, so the best opportunities will come from areas where your business already significantly interacts with and therefore can have the most sustainable impact on the community.
- Build an understanding of the benefits. Volunteering is a two-way street and it’s essential to understand how your team will benefit from the opportunity. Is it developing a greater sense of empathy or something more tangible?
- Find the right partners. We’re lucky to have a long-term relationship with NSPCC and work with them in several ways, including supporting their work to keep kids safe online. This means our efforts are ongoing, and each year can build upon the previous year’s good work.
At O2, we’re making it count in three key areas this year:
We’re encouraging all employees to donate old and unused tech, as part of our O2 Recycle scheme. As well as safely reusing and recycling items where possible, this will help generate funds towards our GoThinkBig initiative, and support our work with the NSPCC. You can take part in this too, by sending in your dusty old devices (for free!) or dropping them into your nearest O2 store. Find your nearest store here.
With steppers set up across all three of our offices, we’ve invited our team to get behind our ‘Gherkineers’ (O2 employees taking part in the real Gherkin Challenge – climbing a whopping 38 flights of stairs on October 22nd ) to raise money for the O2 & NSPCC partnership.
The Big Interview
Our people are the best in the business, so we’re hosting a series of mock interviews and speed networking allowing our employees to share their skills and expertise with young people. This event is part of our ongoing support of GoThinkBig, helping the next generation of movers and shakers with their dream jobs.
