MWC 2017 – LG G6 review

A theme of the 2017 Mobile World Congress has been screen innovation, with LG front and centre thanks to their newly announced flagship, the LG G6.

That innovation starts with the screen. Most mobile phone displays these days have a 16:9 aspect ratio, it’s what we’ve become used to. But the G6 sports an extra-long 18:9 design, so it looks exceptionally slimline. And because the screen reaches virtually to the edges of the device, with barely a bezel in sight, the G6 is one of the most unique looking smartphones around.

There’s a lot of tech packed into the 5.7-inch display. It’s the first phone to come with Dolby Vision support and it’s HDR10-enabled too. That means super-sharp Quad HD with a pixel count of 2,880 x 1,440 and that vibrancy, along with the tiny bezel, makes it seem like you’re holding a much bigger phone than it actually is, so it’s more comfortable to use with one hand. This ultra-long display means that split-screen multi-tasking has never been more comfortable on a smartphone, with two perfect squares for each of your active apps.

You can simultaneously check your emails while staying up to date with Twitter, or scroll through a presentation while streaming the news – it’s all made possible thanks to the G6 and Android 7.

Add business apps

The LG G6 runs on the Android operating system, which means fantastic app support. This includes productivity apps like Office 365 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, all available from O2 Business. And it’s all kept going by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with a hefty 4GB RAM, so there shouldn’t be any danger of slowing down, no matter how busy you are.

It comes with 32GB of internal storage coupled and you can add more via microSD card, so you’ll have plenty of room for your files and documents, while the dual 13-megapixel cameras around the back offer an ultra-wide-angle so you can get even more into your pictures and video.

Rounding everything off with a secure fingerprint scanner around the back as well as a large battery, and the LG G6 looks set to impress when it’s released later this year.
